About the Marseille Provence Airport

The Marseille Provence airport is located in the town of Marignane, on the banks of the Etang de Berre, 25 km from Marseille and Aix-en-Provence, 65 km from Arles, 75 km from Avignon, 90 km from Toulon.

It is the gateway to Marseille, France's 2nd largest city by population, to Provence, to the Southern Alps, to cruise ship departures (sea, river), to Provencal gastronomy and to second homes for many foreigners. In addition, the Southern region is one of the leading tourist regions in Europe with 35 million visitors each year.
Ideally positioned on the Mediterranean basin, within a vast multimodal network, the Marseille Provence airport provides access to a catchment area of 3 million inhabitants living less than an hour's drive from the airport, and 6.5 million inhabitants living less than 2 hours away. Its multi-modal service (motorway access, public transport services, etc.) makes it the 2nd largest regional airport in France (after Nice, ahead of Lyon) in terms of the number of passengers carried.

124 destinations in 33 countries were connected by direct flight in 2019 (116 destinations are connected in 2022).

Marseille Provence Airport is managed by an airport company that is currently 60% owned by the State, 25% by the CCIAMP (Aix Marseille Provence Chamber of Commerce and Industry) and 15% by local authorities. The airport domain covers more than 600 hectares, with 80,000 m2 of terminal building accessible to the public, two runways, two terminals, and more than 14,000 parking spaces.

About Terminal 1

Marseille Provence Airport is continuously transforming its infrastructure to meet the new and future requirements of air transport. Thanks to the Cœur d'Aéroport project, the airport is beginning a new chapter in its history: the historic Terminal 1, dedicated to traditional airlines, will be expanded to meet several objectives:

  • Streamlining flows and improving the passenger experience: a redesigned commercial offer in the boarding area,
  • Simplifying access and formalities currently spread over different halls will simplify the passenger experience
  • Improving service quality with the creation of an additional 20,000 square meters to avoid congestion and queues, maximizing time for pleasure
  • Bringing the airport into compliance with new regulatory standards for baggage control
